In 2017, at the conclusion of the financial commitment to San Martin parish in Lima Peru, the mission
committee was in search of another parish needing assistance. It was around that same time that Father
Adolf Busobozi, a Ugandan priest who spent approximately 10 years studying and working in the Diocese
of Springfield, much of it in Easthampton, was called home to Uganda by his Bishop to become pastor of
St. Francis of Assisi parish. The mission committee decided to add St. Francis as an official sister parish.
St. Francis parish consists of the main church which was under construction when Father arrived and 13
satellite village chapels for those too far to travel to the main church. Much progress has been made on
the church during this time and the church itself is finally getting close to completion. It is still in need of
flooring and pews, but little by little progress is being made. There was also a need for a rectory which is
also nearing completion.
The work continues as they are now starting the construction of public restrooms. They continue to chip
away and prioritize each of the projects. This support continues to be important to St. Francis as there is
much poverty in this parish. Each of the satellite chapels are also in very poor condition, some have
collapsed leaving some of the villages having to hold mass outside. Fr. Adolf and the parishioners are
extremely grateful for the support. Many of the projects that have been completed and those moving
forward would not happened without OLV’s support.
